THE PRISONER WINE PACKAGING

The Prisoner Wine is a wine brand from California. Their first wine, The Prisoner, was released two decades ago as a complex blend of some of California’s best and most unusual grape varieties, it swiftly and permanently changed the perception of what a red blend wine could be. From the company’s founding, The Prisoner Wine Company has been innovative while embracing creativity. The Prisoner Wine Company approached DIP MAD to design a unique packaging of a wine gift box.

To express the core value, our main visual of the box used a tear apart design with a matt printing texture. For the logotype, we have revamped the original handwritten logotype to be 3D metal effect, so as to enhance its characteristic of heritage and sophistication. The box kept the original artwork with a monotoned printed effect in silver grey. We also developed a logo with a circled ‘P’ initial like a mark for individual brand identity use.

PACKAGING DESIGN

The brand name and flagship label were inspired by an etching titled Le Petit Prisonnier by 19th century Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Its subtitle translates to “the custody is as barbaric as the crime”. The sketch is part of Goya’s series The Disasters of War, created as a visual protest to the injustice and brutality of the Spanish War in 1808.
